A custom corrugated box starts from the product rather than from a catalogue. You give the size the product actually needs, the quantity, and how the box will be handled. Those figures become the specification that is reviewed and quoted.
Packaging requirements vary according to product and handling conditions.

Stock size vs. custom size
What actually changes when the box is made to fit.
Void space
A stock size is rarely the size of your product. The difference is empty volume that has to be filled, paid for, and shipped.
Internal filler
When the box fits, less filler is needed to stop the product moving. Where a product still needs to be located, a pad or partition is specified deliberately.
Cube on the vehicle
Outer dimensions decide how many boxes occupy a pallet or a vehicle. A tighter box is a smaller shipping cube for the same goods.
Presentation
A box built around the product opens cleanly and reads as intentional. That matters most where the end customer is the one opening it.
Before quotation
The information a quotation is prepared from.
You do not need every item below to send a request. Anything you are unsure of can be left as “not sure”, and it will be raised with you during review rather than guessed at.
What is being packed
The product, its approximate weight, and how it will be handled, stored and transported. This is what makes the rest of the specification sensible rather than arbitrary.
Dimensions and unit
Length, width and height — and whether those figures are internal or external. Millimetres, centimetres and inches are all accepted; state which one you measured in.
Quantity
The quantity you intend to order. If you are still deciding, give a second quantity and both can be quoted side by side for comparison.
Board construction preference
Single-wall, double-wall, or “not sure” if you would rather the requirement was reviewed against the product weight and the stacking conditions.
Material and outer appearance
Kraft, white-top, another surface, or “not sure”. The surface affects cost and it changes how printing appears on the finished box.
Printing requirement
Whether the box is printed at all, and if so roughly how many colours. Artwork can be attached to the request or supplied later during review.
Delivery or pickup
Where the boxes need to go, or whether they will be collected. Delivery is quoted separately from the boxes themselves.
Anything unusual
Ventilation, moisture or cold storage, regulatory labelling, structural features, direct food contact — describe it in your own words so it can be reviewed before costing.

Quantity
Set-up effort is spread across the run, so per-unit cost normally decreases as quantity increases. Alternative quantity tiers can be quoted side by side.
Board construction
Single-wall and double-wall constructions differ in strength and in material used. The appropriate construction depends on weight, stacking and handling.
Material and appearance
Kraft and white-top surfaces differ in cost and in how printing appears on them.
Printing
The number of colours and the printed area affect both the unit price and any one-time plate requirement.
Tooling
Die-cut structures and printing plates may carry a one-time set-up charge, which is stated separately in the quotation.
Delivery or pickup
Delivery location and arrangement are quoted separately from the boxes themselves.
Special requirements
Coatings, structural features, or specific handling conditions are reviewed individually.
Final specifications and pricing will be stated in the written quotation.
